Volunteer with us!

Volunteers are vital to the work we do and we truly appreciate those who donate their time to help the unwanted pets of Clinton County. We believe in utilizing skilled volunteers with a passion for giving back to our community. To take your first step toward improving lives, please complete our volunteer application.
All applicants must attend a volunteer orientation in order to get started as a PAWS Volunteer. For those under 18 years old, you must be accompanied by an adult family member, who has also completed orientation, and remain supervised while working. Those 18 & older may work independently.
We look forward to having you join our family!

Opportunities

Our flexible volunteer opportunities allow oriented and trained volunteers to work at our facility on their own time. An initial focused training session may be required before working in these areas. These include tasks that need to be performed within the shelter on a daily basis. We have four daily shifts: AM Feed (7-9 am) , Playtime (Noon to 2 pm) , PM Feed (4-6 pm) , Late Night Potty Break (8-10 pm). You can find some task examples and their descriptions below:

Animal Caretaker

Must be responsible and detailed oriented. Animal Caretakers let animals out of their cages & kennels, feed 'breakfast' and 'dinner' during appropriate shift, clean cages & kennels, poopy scoop, do laundry, socialize animals which includes playing with them & doing enrichment and exercise.

Help with these tasks are needed every day, from 7am-9am; 12pm-2pm, 4pm-6 pm, and 8pm-10pm.

Building / Yard Maintenance

Animals & people benefit from a safe outdoor environment. On a periodic basis during warm months, bushes need a trim, gravel needs spreading, fences repaired, etc.

Cleaning

A clean room for our pets makes all the difference in whether or not a potential adopter decides to enter a room. All volunteers and staff are responsible for spot cleaning dog and cat rooms as needed, but a deep clean is needed at least once every few weeks. If you enjoy neatness, this could be right up your alley.

Hours can be coordinated with others who will be cleaning.

Photography

A good photo makes all the difference in getting potential adopters through our doors!! Volunteer photographers are always needed to photograph our shelter pets.
